A few photos taken on the drive from where we were camped (Page Springs) to Sedona.
Big skies everywhere
All of a sudden, there it is. Driving into Sedona never fails to take my breath away. The building restriction in Sedona are so strict that structures don't have much of an impact on the view.
I posted my own video of a panoramic view of Sedona, but it didn't work! So, here is one from a commercial tour company. I just wanted you all to see what it's all about. I've never been on a helicopter tour of the place (or any other) because I'm too cheap.

As said a while back, Sedona is beautiful and we love it, but this trip was more about the exploring the back roads. On Wednesday, I'll get started on that.
.
I can see why you like it. I love the color changes in the mountains there. How beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIconic is the only word that comes to mind as I view these. Okay, maybe breathtaking. And stunning. And make-me-want-to-be-there-right-now.
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree the scenery is magnificent, it's even more so thanks to the way you've captured it through your lens. I truly do wish I could experience this place for real, thanks to you.
Cornville has been a favorite place. Know it like the back of my hand, and Lord knows why a person would pick it to fall in love with. Guess because everyone else is visiting Sedona?
ReplyDeleteCan't wait until the backroad photos start!
love the view of an open road
ReplyDeleteI want to be a stowaway inside your camera!!!
ReplyDeleteAaaaaaaaaaand....I'm still sitting here in the gray rain. THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteLovely pics as always, Pat! :)

ReplyDeleteThat's a bummer your video didn't load. Looks like a beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteI love the different colors in the hills and rocks of Arizona. Magnificent! I'm looking forward to seeing the photos of the back roads.
ReplyDeletethank you for stopping by, Pat; it has been a while since I've visited some of my favorite blogs. Needless to say, I enjoyed some time catching up on some of your travels.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos... all.
I have my doubts that I would be able to relax and enjoy the view from a helicopter... around all those rocks. I'd be a nervous wreck!
ReplyDeleteI've wanted to see Sedona for the last few years. Someday. When I hit the lottery!
ReplyDeleteThat is outrageously gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI've traveled these roads. Beautiful photographs. They take me back. Thank you, Pat!

Gorgeous scenery and photos! Sounds like a great trip!
ReplyDeleteI see the resemblance of the "mission" style architecture, the belfry (ies). The building is so huge though.
ReplyDeleteYes, Pat, it is Mono Lake, South Tufa Reserve. I was in a hurry write that post (tired from the trip) I failed to mention the place. I have edited it and thanks.
Gosh Patrick, I am quite envious of the travels you have, what an exciting and beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteToo beautiful for words, and completely alien to this Minnesotan. :-)
ReplyDeletePearl

ReplyDeletelook forward to see more!

ReplyDeleteIt is truly a beautiful place and pics have captured it so well. Look forward to more!
ReplyDeleteGreat landscapes. Greetings.
ReplyDeleteAh, I need some of the warmth and sunshine here! Wonderful road trips you get to take in your lovely part of the world! I love the mountains and desert - there's something really compelling about them, especially when you have the whole road to yourself. ;-))
ReplyDeleteAt the top of my Bucket List is to go west before I die...and I need to hurry up considering I am already 72 going on 90! These shots are to die for in their beauty. How lucky you are to have all of these gorgeous places to photograph. It is beautiful here in the mountains of Virginia, but I have to say I still want to get to California. genie
ReplyDeletewow, Sedona is at the top of my list of places I want to visit. I've heard very many great things about the place - the beautiful setting, the people, the energy. you've captured it well and given me a taste to hold me over until my day comes. I live much too far away to drive it I think, but I've driven to New Mexico, so maybe it's doable. I've embiggened the photos, and it's so worth it! the skies are gorgeous with the colors of the rock. happy day to you Pat.
ReplyDeleteWhat's not to love? Great on-the-road shots of great places! Nothing is as mind-expanding as a desert road trip... Happy Trails!
ReplyDeleteThose beautiful mountains take me back to my childhood when we lived in Arizona.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memories, Pat
I just got back from Santa Barbara and now you've got me wanting to go to Sedona. Excellent shots! Thanks for the video because I'm too cheap for that sort of thing too. :)
ReplyDeleteVery cool Pat.
ReplyDeleteLooks like from a movie .. or ten. Ah the open road. Gotta love it.
What a trip!

Sedona--fabulous red wines there! Did you get any?
ReplyDeleteAs far as helicopter rides being relaxing and calming, well, the one I had kept me hopping on the edge of my seat. Some of those canted turns thru the mountain passes had my heart in my mouth. I just kept taking pictures. The whole ride lasted just 15 minutes. It seemed like half an hour and my iphoto slideshow lasted 12 and a half minutes!
