Wow! He's been working out!
Grumpy!
Lots of Guano on those rocks.
You talkin' to me?
All this guy needs is a monocle, top hat and cane.
Cormorant

For reflections by other photographers go to Weekend Reflections by James. There are about a hundred folks, most of them really good photographers who participate.
.
Love photos of birds. Your pelicans are darker than the ones we get here in Aus.
ReplyDeleteAnd I do think that last one is a cormorant
Nice shots! I think the seagull is saying feed me.
ReplyDeleteThat IS a cormorant! :-)
ReplyDeleteHave a friend in FL I visit quite often. The birds seem to be the same there...
Pearl
these are great! the 'working out' made me LOL! yes, that's a cormorant. :)
ReplyDeleteJust birds is great- really captures the sprite of the coast.
ReplyDeleteBIRDS!!! Love them all!
ReplyDeleteYour captions were just as entertaining as the birds. Love the one preening (working out)
ReplyDeleteNice series, they make me smile, especially the captions with the 'looking' shots :-)
ReplyDeleteGood stuff Pat. I love your sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteI always love your photos/reflections, Pat! And I do love all your captions!! Your sense of humor is such a great way to start a day -- any day! Hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteSylvia
You crack me up. Those birds are beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteLove your photos and captions... and how your mind works!
ReplyDeleteNice views of the birds enjoying a day at the beach.
ReplyDeleteYes, the last image is a cormorant.
Got me smiling, Pat... again. The "working out guy" really is a stunner. I'm glad others agree that your last shot is a cormorant because I was going to say so, too... but I know as much about birds as flowers... ie, nada. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou get the best bird shots...I love the gulls in reflection. We have kormorans here in Maine that spread their wings like your pelican that's working out. My brother likes to en-voice them and say "Hey Mr. Lobsterman...I'm not wearing any pants." Might work for that pelican too.
ReplyDeletethese are fabulous reflection/bird shots. my fave is working out. what a beauty. happy weekend to you Pat.
ReplyDeleteI love the reflection of the seagulls on the first photo. Greetings.
ReplyDeleteyour seagull shots are fabulous, pat!
ReplyDeleteyou certainly have the eye for catching interesting angles!
glad we got to see these.
i love seagulls and their songs as well!
happy weekend!
betty
The storks are amazing! You take fantastic photos.
ReplyDeleteI see you're into birds!!! - pretty gulls in the top pic and oh! those gossip girls - definitely checking you out!!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. I put food out for the birds today. They looked so sad out in the snow.
ReplyDeleteNone of the birds were angry.
ReplyDeleteLove the Taxi Driver bird and his beautiful yellow beak.
ReplyDeleteExcellent shots! Love the pelicans.
ReplyDeleteNormally I would comment on how I love the pictures -and I do- but I feel compelled this time to focus on how your captions really matched perfectly with the shots. Loved this post Pat.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed with how close you/your lens gets to these birds. Great shots. My favorite is the one who's been working out.
ReplyDeletexoRobyn
Fabulous bird shots and that first one is my fave. You are such a great photographer!
ReplyDeleteA great collection of photos!
ReplyDeletelike the gulls and reflection, you got a good camera?
ReplyDeleteYour images are amazing! I love birds and these shots make me love them even more. I am a new follower. :)
ReplyDeleteExcellent Pat....had some "close" encounters recently as well...I'll try and get some photos from the beaches up soon
ReplyDeletealways glad to see your page
Peace
Pat you have a really way with bird photos. This are all really well done. It's almost like they are posing for you.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend that no matter where he goes with his camera, there is sure to be bird shots involved. Once I now he clicked off 50 shots in a row all to get that one good shot of an eagle atop a lamp post..
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful and I shall share them fore sure!!
Mynx - Although we do have brown pelicans out here, the regular ones are brown when they are young. I love them also.
ReplyDeleteAlex - I think he is! The sullen bastard got nothing from me!
Pearl - Aren't cormorants the ones they used for fishing in Japan?
TexWixGirl - He did look pretty buff for a bird! Thanks!
Ren - Oh yeah! There are sea birds everywhere here. Many of them not even by the sea.
Brian - I know you do Brian!
VioletSky - Thanks! I wasn't sure if he was preening or just drying out.
Woody - Thanks Woody! I'm really trying to get caught up!
awarewriter - Thanks so much! I may be losing all my other senses, but humor seems to be hanging in there.
Sylvia K - Thanks Sylvia! I appreciate that. I am having a great weekend. We're camped on a mountain ridge with 50 mph winds, fog, and it's in the mid 30's. Might have snow by tomorrow.

Baby Sister - Thanks! they sure are!
ReplyDeleteMs. A - Thanks so much Ms. A! Some say it's not working at all.
Martha Z - Thanks Martha! There were birds everywhere.
Francisca - Mission accomplished! I know nothing about flowers or birds. Okay, I know what roses are because they hurt and plumerias because they are my favorite.
Dorian - Your brother is pretty funny! thanks for the nice words.
Ms. Becky - Thanks Becky! I'm having a happy and cold weekend. Hope you are doing the same. Not being cold, but having a great weekend.
Japy - Hey Japy! Thanks, I really like that photo also.
Betty M - thanks so much! It's all about the angles... Happy weekend to you as well.
Belle - Thanks Belle! I'm good at waiting birds out for a good pose.

Belle - Thanks Belle! I'm good at waiting birds out for a good pose.
Dianne - I'm in to taking photos of them, that's for sure. Where I live we don't have a large selection of colorful "land" birds. I think those girls were laughing at me.
ReplyDeleteM Pax - Hey there! Thanks so much! Brrrr! If I want snow, I have to travel to it. Where we are camping this week, there may be snow in the morning.
Trooper Thorn - LOL! Nope, no Angry Birds. My 2 year old grandson already plays that game. Whenever he sees a cell phone, he says, "angy birds pease!"
Michael Troutman - Didn't you do a review on that movie! I haven't been over in quite a while, I'll be by very soon. I promise...
Karen - thanks so much! I love them also.
Tim - Thanks so much Tim. It's just my smart alec nature...
Robyn - It's easier to have a longer lens and not have to get so close, but sometimes you just gotta move in slowly.
Marguerite - thanks so much! I wish I could take photos as well as you cook!
Sivinden - Thanks so much! I appreciate it.
Ann - I have a few cameras, they are old and not that hot. One has a really good lens though.
ReplyDeleteMurugi Njehia - thanks for the nice comment and for following! I truly appreciate it.
RD - I can't wait to see them. Thanks for stopping by!
Chuck - I think it's positive karma from when a seagull crapped directly in my eye.
Lynne - Oh yeah, I've done that. On our trip to Arizona last month I took about that many of a hawk that landed right by us and wouldn't move.
Excellent captions. And pelicans are a special favorite of mine -- so graceful in the air, such comics on the ground.

ReplyDeleteGreat shots. Shore birds are always such characters.
ReplyDeleteDarryl and Ruth :)
I have a shot very much like this only with one bird...in my archives!!! Also from the Central Coast!!! Was this near the little pier just south of San Simeon???
ReplyDeletealtadenahiker - Thanks! I agree, they sure seem to have personalities.
ReplyDeleteD and R - Thanks! They sure are.
TheChieftess - None of this group is, but I am going to do a post of pics I took on and around the pier at San Simeon!
Always enjoy these shorebirds! Love those young pelicans!
ReplyDeleteWow! Those bird pics are great! I can see individual feathers on some of them! You should submit your photos to magazines if you don't already. They are really good.
ReplyDeleteOh I love these bird pics! The first one with the reflections is wonderful! All are just gorgeous, Pat!
ReplyDeleteThe fog makes the photo FEEL.
ReplyDeletemissing moments - I'm with you. I love being on the coast and birds are one of the reasons why.
ReplyDeleteLolamouse - Thanks for that Lola! Believe it or not, I've never even printed a single one of my photos.
Pam - Me too! Thanks so much Pam!
Brenda - I agree. It's a fine line between too much fog and too little to make a difference. Thanks Brenda...
Nice pictures. Esp. loved the pelican with its wings spread -- and the funny caption.
